1. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name
Everything we are and do is under our Creator and Father.
2. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
This should always be the #1 item. GOD, you say “jump,” I say “Yes, Sir!” You know better in all things.
3. Give us this day our daily bread
Give us this day our daily substance. That includes everything you need for that one day to obey what God tells you to do.
4. Forgive us our (debts / trespasses) as we forgive those who trespass against us
You have to forgive others. No exceptions!
5. Lead us not into temptation but
Jesus went to the wilderness to be tempted. We as his followers don’t have to go to the wilderness. We are tempted after our own lusts every day. “Lead us NOT into temptation!”
6. Deliver us from evil (the evil one)
This ties #2 and #5 together and points us to the only one who can deliver.
7. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory — forever and ever.
It is really better for me to dwell with YOU. But for YOUR kingdom to come on Earth as it is in HEAVEN it takes workers, and I want to be one of those workers.
Your actions can direct you away from God or toward God, whether done in private or public. As we learn in Revelation 3:15, God wishes we were hot or cold, not lukewarm.
Why is this?
Because lukewarm means we are apathetic. We don’t care. We aren’t looking for anything better. God can draw us as we look toward him and pursue us as we run away.
“Your will be done, God,” and “deliver us from the evil one.”
